Barter, operated globally with its first core users coming from Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. The Barter card is used for payments on most merchant sites where the Visa/MasterCard logo is displayed and the card option enabled. Common among these global payment sites include Uber, Google Play, Apple Music, Asos, Udemy, Coursera, AliExpress,, Facebook and PayPal.

What is Barter?

Barter was designed as a smart consumer payment product that facilitates merchant payments within Africa and across its borders, Flutterwave partnered with Visa, a global payments company, to launch Barter (previously GetBarter) in 2017.

Flutterwave’s announcement of the end of Barter’s comes on the heels of evolving customer needs and shifting market trends, and the payment platform will permanently cease operations on March 12, 2024.
